4. the library-access to early Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell records
5. camp counselors in the early 60's-played Peter, Paul, and Mary songs on their guitars
6. Classical Gas-played by Mason Williams
7. Richie Havens guitar playing in the Woodstock movie on the song Freedom
8. early Leo Kotke
9. Peter Townsend's rhythmic guitar playing on Pinball Wizard
10. Embryonic Journey-the instrumental played by Jorma Kaukonen from Surrealistic Pillow album
11. Keith Franz-local guitar who taught me about dropped D tuning
12. George Harrison/Ravi Shankar-the "Indian" sound of the drone
13. Rick Mariner-local college guitarist who introduced me to flatpicking style which I had first heard in the early seventies by David Bromberg
14. the clawhammer style of banjo playing of Bob Carlin
15. the folksingers Michael Cooney, John McCutcheon, and Joe Hickerson who demonstrated how traditional music could be performed in a living, breathing way
16. the open tunings of David Crosby/Joni Mitchell
